CALI, Colombia -- Tara Davis was the highlight of the Day 4 morning session at IAAF World Yotuh Championships after she automatically qualified for the long jump final on her first attempt.
 
Davis (Agoura Hills, California) followed her strategy to a tee, wasting no time qualifying for her second horizontal-jump final. Davis leaped 6.24m/20-5.75 on her first long jump attempt to surpass the auto standard. On Friday, she jumped 13.01m/42-8.25 to qualify for the triple jump final.
 
In Group B of javelin prelims, Liam Christensen (Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina) soared to a 14-foot PR of 72.60m/238-2, almost reaching the 73-meter qualification mark on his opening throw. Christensen’s second throw landed flat and his third was ruled a foul. By the slimmest of margins, he missed the final by 40 centimeters or just over 15 inches.
 
In the second heat of the mixed 4x400m relay, Team USA lined up in alternating genders with 400m bronze medalist Keshun Reed (Arlington, Texas) on the lead leg, Symone Mason (Aliso Viejo, Texas) up next and Corey Poole (New Jersey, New Jersey) running third. Lynna Irby (Indianapolis, Indiana) was the anchor.
 
Reed ran well in lane 8, maintaining the lead for the entire first lap. Mason found herself chasing a male athlete from the Dominican Republic by only two strides after the opening turn, but she used her kick to handoff to Poole at 1:39.
 
Poole chased down the female runner from the Dominican Republic to regain the lead midway through the back curve. On the final leg, Irby a female from that same rivaling DR team were both in charge of bringing it home. Irby, already with a 10-meter lead, increased the gap down the back stretch, leading Team USA to a near 40-meter win in 3:22.6
                                   
Jordan Fields (Saint Johns, Florida) and Caice Lanovaz (Los Gatos, California) finished in the top five in Group A in the heptathlon long jump and moved up in the point standings, with Lanovaz 23rd and Fields 26th with two events remaining. Fields had a best of 5.60m/18-4.5 and Lanovaz leaped 5.51m/18-1.
 
Lanovaz set a personal best in the javelin with a throw of 35.32m/115-10 on her final attempt, while Fields had a best of 25.27m/82-11.
