Kastor shatters American masters record at Chicago Marathon

10/11/2015

CHICAGO -- Olympic bronze medalist and three-time Olympian Deena Kastor had a banner day at Sunday’s Bank of America Chicago Marathon, running 2:27:47 to break the American masters marathon record by almost a minute. Kastor (Mammoth Lakes, California) crossed as the top American and seventh woman overall.

Kastor’s time broke Colleen De Reuck’s American masters record of 2:28:40 from the Chicago Marathon in 2005. Kastor holds the American record for the marathon as well, registering a finish of 2:19:36 in London in 2006.

The Bank of America Chicago Marathon saw stellar performances from many American athletes, including a reappearance from comeback kid Luke Puskedra (Salt Lake City, Utah), turning in a five-minute personal best to finish fifth overall in 2:10:24, and Elkanah Kibet (Fayetteville, North Carolina) was the second American man to finish, crossing in 2:11:31 for his marathon debut. Sara Hall (Santa Rosa, California), bouncing back from a disappointing marathon debut in Los Angeles, finished as the second American woman and 10th overall in 2:31:14 for a 15 minute personal best.
