USATF legends celebrate 100 Days until World Champs
From IAAF Reports

BEIJING - To commemorate 100 days until the start of IAAF World Championships at the Beijing’s 2008 Olympic Stadium, the Bird’s Nest, American track & field legends Michael Johnson and Mike Powell participated in Thursday’s special ceremony held just outside the national venue for more than 1,000 spectators, guests and athletes.

“It’s a fantastic stadium,” said a nostalgic Johnson, the reigning 400m world-record holder. “I have had the pleasure of being here for the Olympic Games in 2008, and every day was special. It would have been a real pleasure to compete in this stadium.

“China has a great athletics tradition,” he continued, “and hopefully the World Championships will inspire a new group of athletes and give them the chance to experience the wonderful opportunities that we had.”

Following the ceremony, the United Nations Development Programme and Athletics for a Better World supported a 1.5km fun run held in the Olympic Park.

IAAF World Championships will feature more than 2,000 athletes from more than 200 countries competing over the course of nine days, beginning Aug. 22 and concluding Aug. 30. The event, which is estimated to reach a broadcast audience of 6 billion people, worldwide, is expected to draw more than half a million spectators throughout the competition.

Interactive camp provides tools and resources for top recent post-collegiate runners to pursue a professional career

ARLINGTON, Virginia – RunPro Camp, designed to help educate and inform distance runners interested in pursuing a professional running career after college, is now accepting applications from individuals completing their NCAA eligibility by June 30, 2015, as well as runners who have completed eligibility within the last 24-months.

The application can be found at www.RunPro.com and the application deadline has been extended to May 22, 2015.

The 2015 RunPro Camp, held July 9-11 in Arlington, Virginia, at the national office location of the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA), is sponsored in part by USA Track & Field. The camp is a companion to www.RunPro.com, a website designed to assist promising distance runners with the transition from collegiate to professional running.

“This isn’t a camp to learn how to run or how to run better. It’s a camp to give promising U.S. distance runners the knowledge and guidance they need to pursue a professional running career,” outlined Jean Knaack, RRCA executive director. “We’ve already seen some early successes by athletes that have attended either the 2011 or 2013 RunPro Camps such as Lauren Kleppin’s third place finish at the 2014 ASICS LA Marathon.”
