USATF hosts RunJumpThrow Experience at The Armory

2/12/2015

NEW YORK -- Elite athletes Will Claye, Kristi Castlin, Jesse Williams, Briana Nelson and Kyle Merber on Thursday led a RunJumpThrow experience at The New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory. All five athletes will compete at Saturday’s NYRR Millrose Games.

The RJT Experience, which today consisted of eight stations, is a hands-on learning program that gets kids excited about physical activity by introducing them to the basic running, jumping and throwing skills through track & field.

“It’s been really fun, and the kids make you feel young and energetic,” said Olympic high jumper Jesse Williams. “It’s important for kids to come out and see that track & field can be fun. I think [it was great for them] to meet some of the athletes, even though they may not know who we are.”

USATF and Hershey teamed up to create the program, which provides children ages 7-12 a fun chance to learn and practice the foundational skills of all sports – running, jumping, and throwing. These skills are the core of track & field and can be applied on the track or on nearly any other sport’s playing field.
