What you need to know ahead of the .US National 12K

Defending Champions and Top Contenders Return

Many of the contenders from years past will take to the streets of Alexandria and the George Washington Parkway for the .US National 12K, including two-time defending .US National 12K champion and world record holder Molly Huddle. The men’s winners from 2013 and 2014, Aaron Braun and Brian Shrader, will also be competing, as well as 2014 USARC Champion Christo Landry.


The .US National 12K is the season-capping race to the USATF Running Circuit (USARC), a series of races that annually provides nearly $1 million in prize money to American runners. Elite athletes will vie for a combined $100,000 in prize money in Alexandria. Huddle currently leads the women’s standings while USATF Marathon Champion Jared Ward is atop the men’s leaderboard.

Pacers Running Store Autograph Signing - Alexi Pappas

Alexi Pappas will be signing autographs Friday evening, November 13 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Pacers Running Store on King Street in Alexandria. The filmmaker behind Tracktown, Alexi also stars in the film about a runner who starts to fall in love while competing in her first Olympic Trials. Alexi will be competing for a second consecutive year in the .US National 12K.


USATF.TV Webcast

The 2015 .US National 12K will be broadcast live from Alexandria, Virginia on Sunday, November 15th via USATF.tv. The free broadcast is scheduled to begin at 7:40 a.m ET. The elite women’s race begins at 7:45 a.m. and the elite men’s race, as well as the masters and open fields, toe the line at 7:55 a.m. Be sure to tune in to hear the USATF Rewards code and earn wings on USATF Zone!


Traffic and Road Closures for Race Day

On Sunday morning, Washington, Franklin and Union Streets, and the Church Street ramp from 95 are closed. All eastbound traffic approaching Washington will be diverted at Columbus (from Franklin to Church). Local traffic only will be permitted to access Washington from Church Street. Cross traffic will be allowed across Franklin during breaks in the race. Porto Vecchio and Hunting Point will be monitored to allow traffic to cross Washington during breaks. The official crossover point for Union is Duke Street, again at breaks in the race. There will be delays while waiting for the breaks. Traffic on Washington will shift to single lane north and south in the normal southbound lanes between 6-6:30 a.m. The Church Street ramp will be closed down at 6 a.m., and the remainder of the course will be closed by 6:45.
