adidas Grand Prix set for center stage in the Big Apple

6/12/2015

NEW YORK CITY -- Some of America’s greatest athletes, along with the world’s fastest man, are ready for the spotlight at the adidas Grand Prix at Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island. Many of the meet’s biggest matchups serve as precursors for the 2015 USATF Outdoor Championships in just two weeks.

The adidas Grand Prix, the fifth stop of the USATF Championship Series outdoors and the seventh Diamond League meeting, will begin coverage on Saturday, June 13 at 12 p.m. ET on USATF.TV for the adidas Girls Dream 100m and adidas Boys Dream Mile, as well as the Fastest Kid in NYC 100m races.

From 1-3 p.m. ET, the adidas Grand Prix will air live on NBC and NBC Live Extra with all Diamond League events. Following the conclusion of the TV window, the adidas Boys Dream 100m and adidas Girls Dream Mile can be seen on USATF.TV, with The Cool Down immediately following.

Olympic gold medalist Tianna Bartoletta will double up in the women’s 100 meters and long jump for the second straight Diamond League meeting, having competed in both at the Nike Prefontaine Classic two weeks ago. Bartoletta had an evening between the two events in Eugene but will have mere minutes between her final jump and putting her feet in the blocks for the 100 meters.

Jenn Suhr will enjoy a homecoming of sorts, as she competes in yet another adidas Grand Prix women’s pole vault. Continuing the theme of the 2015 season, dubbed the Year of the Vault, Suhr will look to finetune heading into USATF Outdoors at the end of June, where she will compete to make her third straight World Championship team.

The men’s shot put boasts an impressive domestic field, led by seven-time USATF shot put champion Christian Cantwell and reigning USATF Outdoor champion Joe Kovacs.

On the heels of her impressive 2014 season, Tori Bowie will look to score valuable Diamond League points in the women's 200 meters. Bowie captured the women's 100 meters title at last year's adidas Grand Prix and stunned in the women's 200 meters at the 2014 Nike Prefontaine Classic to kickstart her fantastic 2014.

In addition to the impressive fields of U.S. athletes, world record holder, six-time Olympic gold medalist and the fastest man alive Usain Bolt will compete in the men’s 200 meters. This is Bolt’s first individual competition in the U.S. since his world record in the 100 meters at the 2008 adidas Grand Prix.

The adidas Dream races will be as exciting as ever, with the nation’s fastest girl Teahna Daniels and the latest U.S. high schooler to go sub-4:00, Grant Fisher, set for the Dream 100m and Mile, respectively. They’ll face stiff competition, especially in the adidas Boys Dream Mile which boasts a field of 13 and a quick rabbit in Youth Olympic gold medalist Myles Marshall.
