Weather

During late July, Wichita can reach high temperatures. Meet management and the local organizing committee (LOC) are committed to providing an enjoyable event and are taking the necessary precautions to keep athletes and spectators protected from the elements. Shade tents will be provided for athletes at designated competition, warm up, and check-in areas, along with plenty of water and replenishment beverages. Misting systems will be available on both sides of the stadium and two (2) air-conditioned tents will be available for spectators’ use. Spectators may also setup personal tents in designated areas of the stadium.

Severe Weather Plan

An experienced medical team and the local fire department will be onsite to gauge temperature and competition conditions.  In the event of extreme temperatures, the following avenues will be used to communicate any changes to the meet schedule:

  1. In -stadium announcements.
  2. Meet management will use the contact phone numbers and emails provided at packet pickup to communicate any significant changes to the event or schedule. It is important that parents and coaches provide accurate information during this time.
  3. The USATF Event website will be continually updated.
  4. Packet Pickup/Registration will serve as the technical information center (TIC) and will have information on any schedule changes.
  5. USATF host hotels will also receive additional contingency plan information to share with event guests.

It is important for athletes, parents and coaches to do their part to prevent heat related illnesses.
